I want to configure my linux machine as a router? i have a ppp0 broadband connection.?
I also have another m/c(linux) connected using crossover. the linux router i was taking abt has 2 ethernet interfaces.... one for the ppp0 broad band connectiona and the other one for the other linux machine. i want to have net access in another machine as well... how do i do that without using squid??

My husband and I just received out tax refund and one of the things we need to get with it is a new Camcorder. We just had our first baby and I rely don't want to miss his first steps and all those other things... It sounds as though you don't want to spend very much for anything you won't understand how to use. In this case, I would recommend either Mini-DV or Flash Media. In general stay away from things like Hi-8 and Blu-ray because they really can be difficult to work with.
Mini-DV stands for Mini-Digital Video. It records onto a small tape that you put in the camera. It is good for simplicity, reliability, and video quality. Generally you can record about 60 minutes on one tape. When you want to put the video on your computer or a DVD, you hook the camera to the computer with a cable and use a special program to import the video. Usually a program for this comes with the camera. Then you can use a program (sometimes the same program) to edit it if you want and burn it to a DVD that you can then stick into a DVD player and watch on the big screen!
Flash Media just means the camera records onto a small flash stick, like those usb sticks or "flash drives" you always see. This format is a little more complicated than mini-dv, because it depends on what kind of flash stick you use. For instance, there are memory sticks, sd cards, compact flash, etc. I wouldn't recommend this format unless you are willing to dive into all this.
It also sounds as though you don't have any idea where to start looking in terms of companies and models. Here is where I can help you. For Mini-DV cameras I can highly recommend the Panasonic PV-GS320. I own the slightly higher end version of this, the PV-GS300, and can attest to its ease of use and quality. Other than that I can recommend the Elura line of camcorders by Canon. They are pretty much made for people just like you who need ease of use and simplicity. They are very popular.
All that other stuff you mentioned like recording speeds, image stabilizers, mpeg movie mode resolutions, bla bla bla... You really don't need to worry about any of that except for image stabilizers. Image stabilizers simply stabilize the image that is being recorded to the tape or flash stick or whatever. In other words, they take most of the natural hand shake out of the video. All cameras have some kind, whether it's Electronic of Optical. Optical is superior to Electronic, but usually means you pay more too. So it's up to you.
People make a big deal out of HD (high definition) these days. You really don't need to worry about it. SD (standard definition) works just as well. If you don't have an HDTV you won't see it anyway.
I hope I didn't confuse you more. I'm more into the higher end of the camcorder thing, like the ones they use on movie sets for big productions.

Vb 2008 learning help ?
since i am using computer from 5 to 6 years.i have good command over computers internet etc. now i want to start to learn programming from basic to advance. i dont have any knowledge of language fundamentals. i have seen VB 2008 i have designed some basic interfaces in it. but later i came to know that i must have good concept of OOPS or C or c++. few told me you cant learn VB2008 without learning vb 6 or Vb .net 2003. if i will start learning that it will take 6 or more months and than VB2008. its not look great for me. i dont want develop hardcore giant and multinetwork applications. i am planning to develop midrange of applications relating to inventory accounts etc. my question is
it is possible to learn directly VB 2008 or i have to learn vb 6 and more. i always wonder how can u lern writing lots of codes betwen the lines. guide me in this more suggetions also.

VB 2008 would be a great starting place. VB6 is not, 2008 is more tuned towards object oriented programming. You can dive right into this stuff, I did. You'll find that if you learn 2008, you'll be able to understand most of VB6, and possibly some of C and C++. The underlying philosophy of most computer languages are the same, so pick one that's pretty easy (VB is a great choice) and that is going to be a valuable skill for your future.

Take my example, i'm a vb 2005 hobbyist who didnt start from 6.0 or 2003.The best way to learn vb2008 is the video tutorials from the microsoft site from where you download vb. I need advice.. quick!
I have got a simple circuit to control an LED via the parallel port (thru a Turbo C 3.0 program) but i somehow cant manage it...!
the outportb(PORT, value) command doesnt seem to work!!
i connected the +ve leg of the LED to the D5 connector and the -ve leg to the ground (hole 18) of the parallel port... used the outportb() function but nothing happened!!!
what could be the problem? am i connecting the LED in a wrong way??
PS: ALSO LEMME KNOW OF SOME COOL PARALLEL PORT INTERFACING PROGRAMS USING TC 3.0!!! I'M A STUDENT OF BS

Ok, as for the harware connections on a parallel port, I've got no clue. However, TC3.0 is a DOS version, if I remember correctly. You don't say what os you're trying to run the program under, either. So, given that here are potential problems I see for the program.
1). Trying to run a DOS port control program under Windows. This is almost invariably a problem someone will hit these days. In Win9x, this isn't usually a problem. In any Windows Someflavor other than that, Windows wants your program to know the secret handshake before it will give up the hardware to your program's control. Quick Dirty Fix: Use DOS from MS-DOS or Win9x on a bootable diskette to run your software.
2). You're not sending the right value to the parallel port to make the LED work. The value doesn't set the bit that the +pin is connected to. Change the value so it does!
3). You've got everything working, but the LED isn't lighting. Well either it's A. the LED isn't any good (test it!) or B. the pulse width coming from the parallel port isn't wide enough to light the LED for an observable time. Send more pulses coming fast and see what happens.
4). Re-check all standard parameters, like the port number of the LPT one final time and cross all fingers and toes!
5). If all else has failed and you suspect the code is at fault, then try the URL below for examples.
This is what I know from experience in programming communications ports and what little electronics I know. I hope you find your answer here. Good luck!

Unable to uninstall PCTools Antivirus?
I've had this program for about a year. I installed the Vista SP1 and suddenly have problems. Tried to restore to before SP1 but the restore hung on the Registry for 4 hours till I finally shut it down and rebooted to the latest good boot through Safe Mode. So, now my problem with PCTools antivirus is that I can't get into it AT ALL to stop it and I can't uninstall it unless I do (wanted to install a different antivirus). In process of trying, I've run across all sorts of errors and PCTools won't help at all since it's a free version. These are some of the things I've done/seen while working on this:
1) Removed it from the startup menu - but it's still running
2) Installed newest version hoping that it would overwrite the old and I would be able to get into it. Well, I could but the old version was still running! And I could not get online anymore. After an hour on phone with my IP who told me he could see my modem, I restored back to before I installed new version. Could get onliine but get the following messages every time I startup:

This problem happens because of partial incompatability with Windows. Contact program manufacturer for more info

I don't know what to do nor do I know if my computer is being protected anymore. I've gotten various error codes and have gone to the PCTools site to see what to do about it but every time I have to uninstall the program to perform the fix and I can't uninstall it! The one suggestion PCTools gave me was to go to Safe Mode and uninstall it but that doesn't work either. Everytime I try to uninstall it I get an error that says I can't because it's running.

I don't know what to do nor do I know if my computer is being protected anymore. I've gotten various error codes and have gone to the PCTools site to see what to do about it but every time I have to uninstall the program to perform the fix and I can't uninstall it! The one suggestion PCTools gave me was to go to Safe Mode and uninstall it but that doesn't work either. Everytime I try to uninstall it I get an error that says I can't because it's running.
Unable to uninstall PCTools Antivirus?
Use ForceUninstaller(c) it reads the log from when the file was first installed and everywhere it was installed to and undo's those changes then removes the files

Functional decomposition in this context refers to breaking the program down into various functions - for example, a function for the menu, a function for option a, another function for b, etc. The alternative would be (if you were using C) to write the entire program in the main function.
Writing an entire program in one function would technically be valid, but the code would not be too readable to someone else, or even yourself after a few days/weeks/years so leads to difficulties in maintaining the software if a new feature needs to be added, or a bug is discovered.

Programming?
I'm new to C and C++ programming and I've learn them through books and online tutorials. But all the tutorials I've encountered only provide lessons that teaches us how to take inputs from the keyboard. Is there anyway to write a program that takes input from other I/O interfaces such as serial ports, parallel ports or usb? What are the knowledge that I need and the steps on learning that? I would be very grateful if anyone could provide me some links of the tutorials. Thank you very much.

I am planning to go to UNR i have a 4.0 now and I am in the 10 grade. I want to become a full time Software Engineer. I am very very good at math. I never got Less that a A in math in my whole life. I am taking formal geometry right know and will take caculus next or the following year. I know medium Flash action script (like javascript). I am going to learn HTML next year. Right know I am learning C++. UNR has a 3 credit course on this "CS 425/625 SOFTWARE ENGINEERING

However, as for that course, did you notice at the bottom of the page describing it, for prerequisites it lists "Senior standing"? In other words, this class is for college seniors. However, those are requirements only if you wish to get a degree (which I highly recommend). since i am using computer from 5 to 6 years.i have good command over computers internet etc. now i want to start to learn programming from basic to advance. i dont have any knowledge of language fundamentals. i have seen VB 2005 i have designed some basic interfaces in it. but later i came to know that i must have good concept of OOPS or C or c++. few told me you cant learn VB2005 without learning vb 6 or Vb .net 2003. if i will start learning that it will take 6 or more months and than VB2005. its not look great for me. i dont want develop hardcore giant and multinetwork applications. i am planning to develop midrange of applications relating to inventory accounts etc. my question is

How do I create an ObjectDock docklet?
WinCustomize's website sucks (I can't believe they actually try to sell subscriptions for that crap) and I can't find anything on how to create an ObjectDock docklet. I know that it has to be an old API-style DLL, which I can write in C++, but I can't find any documentation on what functions I need to write! And I can't search worth crap on that worthless website.

Places with the strictest gun control also have higher crime rates, look at New York City and Washington D.C. I had a dear friend killed at Virginia Tech on 4/16/2007 and I am not in favor of strict gun control. I like knowing I can defend myself from intruders to my home as opposed to waiting for a cop to show up and possibly being too late.
Reply:I have nothing against citizens bearing arms - that is a right guaranteed by the constitution. I do think that there needs to be some greater method of background research done before someone is allowed to get one, and there needs to be stiffer responsibilities for those that allow a weapon to be sold/obtained by someone that was found to legally not be fit to possess a weapon. If someone bypasses the system and gives a person a gun that didn't pass the background check, only for the gun to be used in a murder, then the seller should also be on trial for murder. Sellers need to be as responsible as the users of the guns.
I personally don't agree with a gun being more protection - it has been proven that individuals that have guns for protection are more likely to die during the commition of a crime against them than those without. That speaks way too much to me. And I have a 2 year old that is extremely curious and crafty - I would be too afraid for her safety having a gun in the house. But I am lucky to live in a country where that is MY choice - not something that I am forced to do.

Hooking windows program?
I am just starting out in programming, I have had one recent college coarse in C++ and have read a few books, so I know the basics and would like to try something a little more advanced. I would like to learn how to write a program that will interface with an already existing program; Such as, a program that would call up Yahoo messenger and log me in...or open the windows calculator and enter in some numbers..things like that. I assume this topic is too complex to cover here, but I can pick it up, I just need key words to enter into search engines, websites which have tutorials, recommended books and such. I just need to be pointed in the right direction. Please reply if you can help.

I just bought a 2nd hard drive
Specs
Western Digital -Raptor X
Model WD1500AHFD
Interface SATA 1.5Gb/s - 150GB
RPM 10,000 - Cache 16MB
I have plenty of sata ports on my mobo and physical connection of hard drive is straightforward.
What is the best path to follow so the Raptor hard drive(new one) becomes my C: drive(Operating system on this) and the Seagate(original one) becomes the D:

How do I configure 2 Hard Drives?
As I understand you dont want to keep your current operating system, because you already said you can reinstall windows again. well so now you just need to make some changing in your hard drive jumpers, have a close look of your both hard drives in bottom area you can easily found jumpers, set the jumper of your 1st Raptor hard drive as Master and other slave to other one. now confirm that your both drives are working together correctly? if positive then boot your system with your operating system CD and go on, complete your windows installation. if you have any kinda problem then just remove your segate one and leave your Raptor drive now install your OP again, after when your system has been installed completely plug your segate drive. good luck

Ghost your old drive to your new one, change your boot priorities in the BIOS and then reformat the old drive.
Reply:Your final choice would be best. Install the new drive only, reinstall a new O/S, then add the old drive as a slave. It will automatically be renamed "D" drive when you reinstall. Delete the O/S off the original drive or it may cause problems. Nothing should be lost, but might want to back up first.

How to block sites in Win XP?
Can anyone teach me how to block sites by using Hosts File in Win XP? I have WiMAX connection. The information about my net connect is the following:

firstly i dont know if you are experienced with PCs but all i can say is unless you are very experienced NEVER alter your C//WINDOWS folder ...trust me bad things can happen ..
ok what you need to do is really quite simple:
google 'free website blocker' there will more than likely be some kind of software option there for you. once youve found some software that you like the sound of, download it and press 'RUN'. most of these programs will be able to block websites based on keywords, searchs, URL, and basically any other way you can think...
and best of all most of these prograsm will be less than 5 megabytes so it wont affect your PC harddrive size availaible..

Question about Windows Movie Maker?
I'm trying to make a video using Windows Movie Maker. This is my first time using it. Everytime I try to import a video it says "C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\My Videos\Running Riot.MPG could not be imported. An interface has too many methods to fire events from" Does anybody have any idea what this means and what to do?

Reply:The case is good. I use it. Get a Western Digital Raptor for your main harddrive and then get a dump drive with whatever HD money you have left over. I agree with person above, you don't need 1000 psu and x-fi is a waste if your going to get weak speakers. Get a normal sound card. Do you need vista 64? Get XP.

Three sheets of plastic have unknown indices of refraction. Could I defragment my hard disc even though Gateway formatted my new hard disc backwards?
o.k where to start! I am on second p.c from gateway w/vista this year.I have had problems with aol not responding and losing connection constantly.Plus numerous other handy little problems.I wound up getting a new hard drive 1 month after purchase because I tryed to do a factory re install after all the little problems. The re install caused me to lose my boot manager and I had no recovery period .So they send me a new hard drive partitioned backwards" yea that is what I said"!I have 0 recovery partition now.I am wondering can I defragment my hard disc,if it is formatted backwards already?Yea I know crazy.This is only a portion of the story.Not to mention the fact that my atm interface "made by gateway"isnt vista combatible neither is intel active management.And they wont help me substitute them they just say uninstall vista.I bought the comp with vista folks!!My advice buy a hp.

Hello all. I play a popular online MMORPG called World of Warcraft. I am recieving a message that states that I am experiencing a WoW Error (a W.orld o.f W.arcraft Error). This is the message I am recieving...

Now when i attempt to WoW repair it states that WoW is ''seriously damaged and will need to be reverted to an earlier version''. When i click okay it then states that ''the amount of data required to repair World of Warcraft is too large.'' then it says ''Please reinstall. ''
When i try to uninstall it says '' Sorry, uninstallation failed ''Uninstall.xml'' could not be read ''

As far as money is concerned, noone likes beggars, I'd suggest not begging for money on your realm as it will give you a bad rep fast, lots of ignores, and if you plan on playing that character all the way to 70, later on you might find that noone will want to instance with ya because they think you are greedy and might even have you on ignore already. Besides, asking for gold on the forums is worthless anyways, there are hundreds of servers in wow which are not connected to each other, and chances of finding someone from your server on your faction who is willing to give someone gold for nothing is very slim.
Just quest, fastest way to level in the game, and the higher level you get, the more gold you will get.

is there a way i can attach a external hard drive or even a spare p.c to my home hub and then use it as a network attached storage device
however i am currently using both the ethernet connections on the hub so i would have to use the spare usb connection,but i suppose i could allways swap the p.c next to the hub to a usb connection giving me a spare ethernet connection
if you can then can you recommned some software that has a easy to use interface,so it can used by anyone

Easy programming language - more detail on what for inside.?
I am an estate agent and have used basic text programming before like on the mac i know how powerful thsi is when used to its full potential but requires a lot of work. I dont mind the work but what i want is programming software which i can link up with word and works and a database to do automated mailshots, search relevant information etc. the actual structure would be fairly simple and the interface would be very basic. I would even drop the word, works and database if the program could act as a database and word program. Would need to be fairly simple to create. I have an advanced higher in computer programming but never took it further at school so i do know roughly about design, implement and testing etc. I have got C++ but i think you would need a degree just in C++ to have any clue abotu it. Its not very user friendly.

since i am using computer from 5 to 6 years.i have good command over computers internet etc. now i want to start to learn programming from basic to advance. i dont have any knowledge of language fundamentals. i have seen VB 2005 i have designed some basic interfaces in it. but later i came to know that i must have good concept of OOPS or C or c++. few told me you cant learn VB2005 without learning vb 6 or Vb .net 2003. if i will start learning that it will take 6 or more months and than VB2005. its not look great for me. i dont want develop hardcore giant and multinetwork applications. i am planning to develop midrange of applications relating to inventory accounts etc. my question is

I notice you have a number of problems.
1) You cannot check if two strings are equal to each other with == you need to use string1.equals(string2). Since strings are objects the double equals sign will compare the memory addresses.

5)ComputeDiscount does not return a value so in the code where you have printf("",ComputeDiscount). Even after you change the printf to include a number and add parenthesis with a value to ComputeDiscount so that it looks like this printf("%d",ComputeDiscount(3)) it still will have no value to print.
6)This is more of a style issue and your code will run just as well without it but the Java naming conventions say that method names should start with a lower case letter so it should be computeDiscount(double n) and displayDiscount(String d)
