Guys kindly help me with my design..here are the details..this is about bluetooth programming and interfacing.

i have to program a particular cellphone to communicate with pc through bluetooth...how am i going to do that?i dont have any idea about bluetooth protocols.the problem is i only know how to access the rs232 parallel port of a pc.. that means the bluetooth module must be connected to that rs232 of the pc so i can access it easily through programming the pc.my objective is just send bit signals from the cellphone then access it from the pins of the rs232.particular signal corresponds to a particular action in the pc which is interpreted by the program in the pc.i will use c++ to access and analyze bit signals sent by the cellphone .is there any bluetooth module which can be connected to rs232 parallel port directly?i find it hard also studying programming in the cellphone especially its bluetooth.any1 there can help me...guys please help me or else my teacher will not allow me to graduate this year.iam college graduating student...tenx!Godbless!

I want to configure my linux machine as a router? i have a ppp0 broadband connection.?

I also have another m/c(linux) connected using crossover. the linux router i was taking abt has 2 ethernet interfaces.... one for the ppp0 broad band connectiona and the other one for the other linux machine. i want to have net access in another machine as well... how do i do that without using squid??

I want to configure my linux machine as a router? i have a ppp0 broadband connection.?
Enable packet forwarding on your linux machine by editing /etc/sysctl.conf or by setting /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward to 1. Using iptables, allow forwarded traffic from the other system to pass through and also SNAT it before it leaves for internet.
Reply:No need to use squid. Just configure simple iptables rules in your linux box. you will find on in iptables HOW TO. Before doing this you would need enable routing in ur linux box. All these details are in the same HOWTO go get it and start working.

Waise you can also try ipcop distro, its very easy to install, configure and rock solid in performance.

What classes will I need to take to become a quality game programmer?

I have searched everywhere for classes that I should take and I came up with these:

Game Programming (duh)

C++ Programming (or maybe Java)

Assembly Level Programming

Computer Architecture

Software Engineering

Computer Graphics

Data Structures

Algorithms

Communication Networks (for MMOs)

AI and Expert Systems

Human Factors (for drop-dead interfaces)

Linear Algebra

Vector Calculus (0_o)

Physics

Have I missed anything, or have I included anything that will be unneccesary? I sincerely hope that Vector Calculus will not be needed because quite honestly, it scares the *censored* outta' me.

Also, while your thinking about that one, here are a few more questions...

2.What is the average salary for a decent programmer? An expert programmer? How about one that barely managed to get the job?

3.How coveted is this job? How much competition will I have?

4.If I decided to take only the game programming classes, would I be incredibly behind if I have not learned C++?

What classes will I need to take to become a quality game programmer?
C++ is a must.

Java will be nearly useless for a professional game programmer for a company that produces console games.

Java is only useful if you do some website games.

Software engineering isn't needed, but it does encompass lots of the theories of game programming.

AI is important, as well as GPU programming (graphics programming).

Physics and Math are extremely important. Study as much as you can and understand it, don't just "get the grade", understand. Vector calculus is just the beginning my friend, you'll be needing to take probably 5 different types of calculus.

Most of the time a computer sciences or computer engineering 4 year degree will cover all you need to know.

2. A decent programmer starts out at about 50k/year. An expert is around 90k/year. Lead programmers earn usually 100k/year salaries, ones in big companies.

The poor quality ones are usually left at grunt level work at entry level salaries

3. It is a growing demand, with growing competition. If you are good, you will get the job. That's all I have to say.

4. Yes, you need to learn C++. Game programming REQUIRES C++, you wouldn't be able to even think about taking such a class without C++ knowledge.

It sounds like you are just picking and choosing courses. Bad idea.

Take a 4 year college degree in either Computer Sciences or Computer Engineering. You'll learn all you need to learn about programming from there, and you'll be better exposed to game elements if the school has a game design club.

Camcorders, what does this all mean?

My husband and I just received out tax refund and one of the things we need to get with it is a new Camcorder. We just had our first baby and I rely don't want to miss his first steps and all those other things... The only problem is I have been kinda out of touch with technology lately so I have no idea what all this crap means anymore!

Suddenly I'm looking at a huge list of stuff like Recording Formats like HDV, HDD, Mini DV, Hi-8, MD Digital, S-VHS-C, S-VHS, DV, Micro MV, VHS-C, Digital-8, Flash Media, Blu-ray, ect...

Recording Speeds, Image Stabilizers, MPEG Movie Mode Resolutions, Memory Card Types, Output and Imput Interfaces...

Saying to myself WTF is all this and what the heck does it mean. I googled it and read some stuff but wiki and these other sites speak a different language sometimes to me. They assume I'm all hight tech and leave me scratching my head looking dumb...

The last thing I rely want is to go into the store and know nothing. I was a salesmen...

Camcorders, what does this all mean?
It sounds as though you don't want to spend very much for anything you won't understand how to use. In this case, I would recommend either Mini-DV or Flash Media. In general stay away from things like Hi-8 and Blu-ray because they really can be difficult to work with.

Mini-DV stands for Mini-Digital Video. It records onto a small tape that you put in the camera. It is good for simplicity, reliability, and video quality. Generally you can record about 60 minutes on one tape. When you want to put the video on your computer or a DVD, you hook the camera to the computer with a cable and use a special program to import the video. Usually a program for this comes with the camera. Then you can use a program (sometimes the same program) to edit it if you want and burn it to a DVD that you can then stick into a DVD player and watch on the big screen!

Flash Media just means the camera records onto a small flash stick, like those usb sticks or "flash drives" you always see. This format is a little more complicated than mini-dv, because it depends on what kind of flash stick you use. For instance, there are memory sticks, sd cards, compact flash, etc. I wouldn't recommend this format unless you are willing to dive into all this.

It also sounds as though you don't have any idea where to start looking in terms of companies and models. Here is where I can help you. For Mini-DV cameras I can highly recommend the Panasonic PV-GS320. I own the slightly higher end version of this, the PV-GS300, and can attest to its ease of use and quality. Other than that I can recommend the Elura line of camcorders by Canon. They are pretty much made for people just like you who need ease of use and simplicity. They are very popular.

All that other stuff you mentioned like recording speeds, image stabilizers, mpeg movie mode resolutions, bla bla bla... You really don't need to worry about any of that except for image stabilizers. Image stabilizers simply stabilize the image that is being recorded to the tape or flash stick or whatever. In other words, they take most of the natural hand shake out of the video. All cameras have some kind, whether it's Electronic of Optical. Optical is superior to Electronic, but usually means you pay more too. So it's up to you.

People make a big deal out of HD (high definition) these days. You really don't need to worry about it. SD (standard definition) works just as well. If you don't have an HDTV you won't see it anyway.

I hope I didn't confuse you more. I'm more into the higher end of the camcorder thing, like the ones they use on movie sets for big productions.

Google is a wonderful resource for this too. Here are a few links:

Vb 2008 learning help ?

since i am using computer from 5 to 6 years.i have good command over computers internet etc. now i want to start to learn programming from basic to advance. i dont have any knowledge of language fundamentals. i have seen VB 2008 i have designed some basic interfaces in it. but later i came to know that i must have good concept of OOPS or C or c++. few told me you cant learn VB2008 without learning vb 6 or Vb .net 2003. if i will start learning that it will take 6 or more months and than VB2008. its not look great for me. i dont want develop hardcore giant and multinetwork applications. i am planning to develop midrange of applications relating to inventory accounts etc. my question is

it is possible to learn directly VB 2008 or i have to learn vb 6 and more. i always wonder how can u lern writing lots of codes betwen the lines. guide me in this more suggetions also.

Vb 2008 learning help ?
VB 2008 would be a great starting place. VB6 is not, 2008 is more tuned towards object oriented programming. You can dive right into this stuff, I did. You'll find that if you learn 2008, you'll be able to understand most of VB6, and possibly some of C and C++. The underlying philosophy of most computer languages are the same, so pick one that's pretty easy (VB is a great choice) and that is going to be a valuable skill for your future.
Reply:You can start learning it directly without the need of learning 6.0 and other versions. Take my example, i'm a vb 2005 hobbyist who didnt start from 6.0 or 2003.The best way to learn vb2008 is the video tutorials from the microsoft site from where you download vb. It's 100% beginner friendly. I truly recommend it.

from where to begin ?

Vb 2008 leaning guide?
If you are a beginner, the best place to start is reading a book called:

"Visual Basic 2005 step by step".

Although this book is about VB 2005, VB 2008 is the same.

Here is the download link:

By the way, Microsoft also provides online tutorials.

HELP me OUT!!?

I need advice.. quick!

I have got a simple circuit to control an LED via the parallel port (thru a Turbo C 3.0 program) but i somehow cant manage it...!

the outportb(PORT, value) command doesnt seem to work!!

i connected the +ve leg of the LED to the D5 connector and the -ve leg to the ground (hole 18) of the parallel port... used the outportb() function but nothing happened!!!

what could be the problem? am i connecting the LED in a wrong way??

PS: ALSO LEMME KNOW OF SOME COOL PARALLEL PORT INTERFACING PROGRAMS USING TC 3.0!!! I'M A STUDENT OF BS

HELP me OUT!!?
Ok, as for the harware connections on a parallel port, I've got no clue. However, TC3.0 is a DOS version, if I remember correctly. You don't say what os you're trying to run the program under, either. So, given that here are potential problems I see for the program.

1). Trying to run a DOS port control program under Windows. This is almost invariably a problem someone will hit these days. In Win9x, this isn't usually a problem. In any Windows Someflavor other than that, Windows wants your program to know the secret handshake before it will give up the hardware to your program's control. Quick Dirty Fix: Use DOS from MS-DOS or Win9x on a bootable diskette to run your software.

2). You're not sending the right value to the parallel port to make the LED work. The value doesn't set the bit that the +pin is connected to. Change the value so it does!

3). You've got everything working, but the LED isn't lighting. Well either it's A. the LED isn't any good (test it!) or B. the pulse width coming from the parallel port isn't wide enough to light the LED for an observable time. Send more pulses coming fast and see what happens.

4). Re-check all standard parameters, like the port number of the LPT one final time and cross all fingers and toes!

5). If all else has failed and you suspect the code is at fault, then try the URL below for examples.

This is what I know from experience in programming communications ports and what little electronics I know. I hope you find your answer here. Good luck!
