I want to learn a server side language. help me make a choice?

for some reason, and a very long time i have a hard time making a decision. i want to get into a server side language. and program a user interface with a login system to read/write to a db.





which of these languages should i hit.





JSP (Asp.net )


PHP


C# ( Asp.net)





what would be the cons and pros of each?

I want to learn a server side language. help me make a choice?
PHP. Easy to learn, you don't have to deal with the god awful WIndows server junk. JSP is good to have if you're actually going out into the web development field and c# is great if you're doing game programming and development.





For a simple hobby and for casual coding, get into PHP. Even if you're learning for a future in web development, hit PHP first. I did and I regret ever having moved away from PHP when I went over to ASP and CF, and used Windows servers, they were awful, and the security still lacks regardless of what anyone says, more so than *nix servers or technology IMO.





I've been using PHP with AJAX, using PHP frameworks that make my life easier like Codigniter and CakePHP and PHP is a blessing. I have nothing negative to say about it.





ASP just wasn't my thing. Too many server issues and I didn't like using it.
